FALL RIVER — Police are investigating two shootings over the weekend including one that left a man injured and a home invasion in which to men were allegedly assaulted.

Police spokesman Detective J.D. Costa said police were called to the area of Quequechan and Wamsutta streets just prior to midnight Friday about a fight in progress and upon arrival were met by a large group of people.

Costa said during the investigation police observed several bullet holes in nearby residences and collected an undetermined number of shell casings. He reported a black male was also suffering from a serious gunshot wound and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. Costa did not know the current condition of the victim.

Costa said officers returned to the scene around 5:30 p.m. Saturday following reports of additional holes in nearby buildings. The matter remains under investigation and Costa said police are looking for a white Ford Explorer or SUV-type vehicle.

Costa said police also responded to the Pleasant View housing development around 10:30 p.m. Sunday after several residents called police and reported hearing gunshots.

Residents of the development said they observed a man holding a gun out of the window of a large, gold colored van with curtains in the window, shooting into the air.

He said no one was hurt in the incident.

In both cases, Costa asked that anyone with information contact Major Crimes Detective Richard Saraiva at 508-324-2796 or call the anonymous tip line at 508-672-TIPS.

Police are also looking for two men suspected of taking part in a violent home invasion early Friday morning.

Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Gauvin said police have secured arrest warrants for Keith Santerre, 32, with a last known address on Downing Street, and Justin Santerre, 28, of Anthony Street, on charges of armed home invasion, armed robbery and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Gauvin said two men living at 236 Hope St. told officer Dwaine Cabeceiras that two men barged into the home around 2 a.m. and demanded money and drugs. Gauvin said the two victims told the assailants they did not have what they were looking for when the 53-year-old victim was struck with what appeared to be a black gun with a long barrel. Gauvin said a 30-year-old victim also reported being struck with the gun and stabbed in the leg.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call the Special Operations division at 508-324-2801 or the anonymous tip line at 508-672-TIPS.

  3. This one is sure to get your blood boiling Laz... it looks like it is going to take an extra 4k to get Mr. Shawn Cadime to agree to come on board. I guess he feels he is worth more than Mr. Chapdelaine and won't take the same or a penny less, in fact he wants 4k more.

And what does the City Clowncil have to say about it, those awesome budget hawks of ours? Your Councilor of the Year Linda Pereira and the rest of the Clowncil has nothing but gushy fall over themselves praise for the young man. I certainly wish him well but I don't think someone with no experience is worth more than what we already were paying. Only in Fall River!

  4. Thanks for the posts...You know how I feel about Mr. Cadime. He's a poliical pick, and his appointment is a blatant form of patronage, a payoff for prior support and being aligned with those aligned with Mayor Flanagan. His selection is truly the stuff of inside baseball It may, in fact, be part of a quid pro quo and nothing more. Am I surprised? Not in the least! It's what's made Fall River what it is today...the MA equivelent of some small backwater in West Virginia or Kentucky, where instead of stills the unemployed here trade in coke and heroin.
I'm afraid we'll all have to gird ourselves for more bad times...things will get worse before they get better. And trust one thing....if Charlie Baker becomes governor, he'll slap this City so hard all the elected officials will run home to momma cryin',with some of them facing the business end of a subpoena!
In terms of the level of journalistic standards shown by the HN, what can be said that hasn't already been said...opps, maybe this could be emoted.......THEY SUCKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

  5. Welcome back, Laz! Looks like FreeWigberto2010 has been banned from the HN website for accusing Linda Pereira of manhandling the english language (heh, man hands, heh). I've lost count of how many friggin usernames I've had to come up with to excercise my right to freedom of speech. I never said she WAS a man in women's clothes, just that I thought she looked like one. But I guess my opinions are too controvertial. That and the city is led by a bunch of thin skinned buffoons with sore pussies (again, just my opinion, please don't ban me LOL)

BUT, I have seen some comments popping up from a certain "WinnWinn". I like his style, reminds me of someone I know...

Have a great day Laz, there are those of us that appreciate your commentaries, keep em coming!

  7. You called the Lambert-Flanagan-Cadime connection in a previous post didn't you Laz? From what I hear someone should take note of the consulting contracts Ed Lambert's UMass "Urban Initiative" has been getting from the School Committee. Lambert couldn't figure out how to solve the dropout rate problem in the past but now he is worth several thousand large as an expert consultant in how to solve the dropout problem. Don't you just love how our tax dollars are spent? Don't you just love how there won't be 1 peep about this from that great investigative force known as the Sterile Snooze?

  8. Yes, I had a good idea that the new forged connection was behind this odious hire But NO, I'm not happy there is no questioning being done of Lambert's "Urban Initiative" from the small fry on the UMass family, Dartmouth. I cannot understand what he could possibly say about the ways to improve Fall River schools after his own administration's abysmal job performance on education.
The UMass job was created for Lambert so he would step down and allow the election where you-no-who won...and the rest is, unfortunately, recent history. Also, there are questionable activities with the awarding of contracts by MMB to old DOE pals and others related to the same PhD program she attends. None of this has been even informally questioned.
The HN should drop all pretense and stop trying to report news and just print an AP feed, then spend it's time on what it does best...Happy News to spread the big lie that, by golly, Fall River IS a great place to live and everyone should dine nightly on meat pies, coney island hot dogs and, of course, Chow Mein Sandwiches. All the while it can keep making the big green in advertising charges and afterall, isn't that what counts the most to them?
